City Hall's time is ripe for greening

NEWCASTLE City Hall's clock face will remain a glowing green disc until Earth Hour on Saturday, when chunks of the skyline will be plunged into blackness.The clock will radiate lime green until 8.30pm on Saturday, when it will join other landmarks in a trail of darkness weaving through the city in support of action on climate change.Newcastle City Council will flick the switch on Queens Wharf Tower, Customs House, the Obelisk, Civic Theatre, Civic Park fountain and the up-light in the Tree of Knowledge at Wickham.A council spokesman said the clock was coloured by technicians from the Civic Theatre, who entered the tower through a man-hole and wrapped fluorescent tubes in heat-resistant green gel.
