About

GoodWe

GoodWe has been around since 2010, which is a decent innings in solar years. The company is headquartered in Suzhou, China, and has been listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange since 2020. Its inverters have now passed 100 GW of cumulative installations across more than 100 countries, so this is not a small manufacturer having its first crack at home batteries.

GoodWe has operated in Australia since 2012, with local sales, technical support and warranty contacts based here. In 2025, the company was recognised as a Tier 1 inverter supplier by BloombergNEF and S&P Global. Tier 1 is a measure of bankability rather than a product-quality stamp, but it is shows yet again that GoodWe is a serious global manufacturer with some solid scale behind it.

For homeowners who want a neat, flexible battery from an established solar brand, the ESA is one of the best options on the Australian market right now.

Introducing the GoodWe ESA battery

The GoodWe ESA is one of the more thoughtfully designed battery systems we install. Instead of piecing together a battery, inverter and separate backup equipment, the main components arrive as one integrated, pre-wired system. That means less site wiring, fewer separate boxes and a cleaner-looking installation. Safety is another area where GoodWe has put in some proper work. The ESA features six layers of protection, including integrated aerosol fire suppression, AI-driven AFCI 3.0 arc-fault protection and built-in heating for reliable charging in colder conditions. Then there's the sizing. Single-phase systems use 5 kWh and 8 kWh usable modules, which can be mixed within the same compatible stack. One stack holds up to six modules, giving you as much as 48 kWh usable. Three-phase systems add 6 kWh and 9 kWh nominal module options and can support as many as twelve modules. At the top end, that is 108 kWh nominal or approximately 104.4 kWh usable, properly large-home and small-commercial territory. Inverter options run from 3 to 10 kW single-phase and 5 to 30 kW three-phase.

What you get with a GoodWe ESA:

  • All-in-one design: pre-wired inverter, battery and switchgear in one unit.
  • Modular storage: 5 kWh and 8 kWh modules, mixable within a stack. Up to 48 kWh single-phase, 108 kWh three-phase.
  • Wide inverter range: single-phase 3 to 10 kW, three-phase 5 to 30 kW.
  • AI-driven arc-fault detection (AFCI 3.0): early-stage electrical fault detection and auto-shutdown.
  • Six-layer battery safety protection: including integrated aerosol fire suppression.
  • Heating mode: reliable performance down to -20°C.
  • 1C charge/discharge rate: fast energy cycling.
  • 200% PV oversizing: pair it with way more solar than the inverter's rated for.
  • Sub-4 ms backup switching: effectively seamless to your appliances.
  • 63 A whole-home backup: full house backup with no separate gateway needed.
  • IP66 rating: indoor or outdoor, fine either way.
  • 10-year product + 10-year performance warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the GoodWe ESA eligible for the federal battery rebate?

Yes, the GoodWe ESA is CEC-approved and fully eligible for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The battery system must have a nominal capacity between 5 and 100 kWh, and rebates are only applicable to the first 50kWh. We handle everything and provide the rebate as an upfront discount on your quote.

Where is the GoodWe ESA made?

GoodWe ESA is manufactured in China. The company is headquartered in Suzhou, China, and has operated since 2010.

How safe is the GoodWe ESA?

The ESA has a serious safety package, including six layers of battery protection, and integrated aerosol fire-extinguishing protection. Compatible hybrid systems also feature AI-driven AFCI 3.0 arc-fault protection, and integrated heating for colder operating conditions. The system is also IP66 rated, allowing an appropriately selected indoor or outdoor installation. As with any battery, correct siting, clearances, switchboard work and installation by an accredited professional remain essential - we will ensure all of this is covered when you get your GoodWe ESA installed with us.

What battery chemistry does the GoodWe ESA use?

Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), like pretty much every modern home battery. LFP is safer, more thermally stable, and lasts longer than older NMC chemistries. GoodWe publishes a cycle-life rating of at least 8,000 cycles for its listed 5 and 8 kWh modules and at least 10,000 cycles for its listed 6 and 9 kWh modules. That's roughly 5-27 years of daily use.

Is the GoodWe ESA suitable for three-phase homes?

Yes. GoodWe offers three-phase ESA inverter options from 5 to 30 kW. The three-phase platform supports 5, 6, 8 and 9 kWh nominal battery modules and can reach 108 kWh nominal capacity across twelve 9 kWh modules. That places the largest ESA systems at the top end of residential storage and into small-commercial territory. Bear in mind that the maximum 108 kWh configuration is above the federal battery program’s 100 kWh nominal eligibility limit.

Can I expand the GoodWe ESA later?

Yes, and the ESA is more flexible than most. You can add modules to an existing stack as your energy needs grow, mix old and new batteries in the same stack (rare), and mix the 5 kWh and 8 kWh module sizes. Single-phase scales to 48 kWh (6 modules per column), three-phase scales to 108 kWh (12 modules across two columns). We do recommend future-proofing and sizing correctly the first time, though, as this can save you a fair bit of money down the road.

What's the warranty on the GoodWe ESA?

Two warranties, actually. A 10-year product warranty (covering manufacturing defects) and a 10-year performance warranty. The performance side guarantees the battery will retain at least 70% of its usable energy at the 10-year mark, or deliver 3.65 MWh of throughput per usable kWh, whichever comes first.

Does the GoodWe ESA provide whole-home backup?

Yes, it can support whole-home backup or essential circuit backup. Compatible single-phase ESA models provide an internal bypass of up to 63 A without requiring a separate backup gateway. Hybrid models can switch to backup in under 4 milliseconds, while the single-phase AC-coupled version is rated at under 10 milliseconds. Whether every circuit gets backed up depends on the inverter size, battery output, switchboard, air conditioners, pumps, ovens and other large loads in the home. Some properties are perfect candidates for full-home backup. For others, an essential-circuits design is the smarter and more reliable option. We work that out before installation rather than making a blanket promise.

Can the GoodWe ESA work with my existing solar?

Yes. The ESA comes in both hybrid (DC-coupled) and AC-coupled flavours. The hybrid version replaces your existing solar inverter; the AC-coupled version sits alongside your current system. Which one's right depends on whether this is a retrofit or new install with solar, and your storage goals. We'll work it out in your free quote.

How much does the GoodWe ESA cost in Australia?

It depends on the storage size you go with (anywhere from a single 5 kWh module up to 48 kWh single-phase, or 108 kWh on three-phase), the inverter, your existing solar, and your location. The ESA sits at an accessible price point relative to the rest of the residential battery market. Your Green.com.au quote will be tailored to your home and show the exact equipment, installation work and any eligible rebates we can apply upfront.
