About

Sungrow

Sungrow may not be the first battery brand you think of, but installers absolutely know it. Founded in 1997, Sungrow has grown into one of the world’s biggest names in solar inverters and energy-storage equipment, with more than 870 GW of power-electronic converters installed across over 180 countries.

It has also operated in Australia since 2012, with a local team based in North Sydney covering sales, technical support, projects and after-sales service. That matters, because a ten-year warranty is a lot more useful when there is an actual Australian support operation behind it.

That combination of long-standing global scale, proven reliability, strong local support and competitive pricing is a big part of Sungrow’s appeal. Its hardware is dependable, its hybrid inverter range is broad, efficiency is strong, and iSolarCloud brings compatible Sungrow solar, battery and EV-charging equipment into the same app.

Sungrow is one of the brands our team recommends regularly, particularly for homes where power, three-phase compatibility and future expansion matter.

Sungrow SBH battery on a residential home

Introducing the Sungrow SBH

The Sungrow SBH is a high-voltage modular battery built for larger homes and small businesses that need more storage, and more battery-side power, than the average household system. The current Australian range starts with the 15 kWh SBH150 and rises in 5 kWh steps through to the 40 kWh SBH400. Every stack uses the same 5 kWh battery modules, with between three and eight modules in one unit. Need even more storage? Where the inverter and system design allow it, up to four equal stacks can be connected in parallel for as much as 160 kWh. Installation is tidy, too. The battery modules stack directly together without separate power cables running between each module, which removes a lot of fiddly inter-module wiring and gives the finished system a clean look.

What you get with a Sungrow SBH:

  • Six capacity options: SBH150 (15kWh), SBH200 (20 kWh), SBH250 (25 kWh), SBH300 (30 kWh), SBH350 (35 kWh), SBH400 (40 kWh).
  • Modular up to 160 kWh: four stacks in parallel for genuinely commercial-scale storage.
  • High power output: up to 50 A continuous, 28.16 kW on the SBH400.
  • Plug-and-play install: no inter-module cables, no failure points.
  • LFP battery chemistry: safer chemistry, longer cycle life.
  • 100% usable depth of discharge: settable, full capacity available when you need it.
  • IP55-rated: install indoors or outdoors.
  • Three-phase compatible: pairs with Sungrow's three-phase hybrid inverters.
  • Backup power: eligible systems provide blackout backup via a Sungrow hybrid inverter.
  • iSolarCloud app: monitor and manage everything from your phone.
  • 10-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sungrow SBH eligible for the federal battery rebate?

Yes, eligible SBH configurations are approved for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program rebate. Green.com.au checks the final configuration, handles the paperwork and shows the eligible discount upfront on the quote.

Where is the Sungrow SBH made?

The Sungrow SBH is manufactured in Sungrow's factory in China. Sungrow was founded in 1997 and reports more than 870 GW of power-electronic equipment installed across over 180 countries. Its Australian operation has been based in Sydney since 2012, with its current sales and technical-support team in North Sydney.

Can the SBH be installed outdoors?

Yes. It's IP55-rated and uses natural convection cooling (no fans, no noise), so it works fine outdoors or in a garage.

Can the SBH charge my electric car?

Yes, indirectly. The car charger is another electrical load in the home. When the EV charger is running, the SBH can discharge through the hybrid inverter and contribute energy to that load. You might need extra battery capacity to allow for home EV charging, which is something we can factor into your system design. Sungrow also offers fantastic compatible home EV chargers, which we can also install for you alongside your SBH. Where one is installed, the iSolarCloud app can bring the inverter, battery and EV charger into the same monitoring platform.

Is the Sungrow SBH suitable for three-phase homes?

Yes. With a Sungrow three-phase hybrid inverter (the SH-RT series), the SBH is fully three-phase compatible. This makes it one of the best options on the market for larger homes, big families, and households with three-phase appliances or ducted aircon.

Can I expand the Sungrow SBH later?

Yes, the SBH is genuinely modular. Start with a smaller stack and add 5 kWh modules as you go, up to 40 kWh per stack. Need more than that? Add a second, third or fourth stack in parallel, up to a max of 160 kWh. It is usually cheaper to install the right size from the get-go, though, so we do recommend future-proofing and sizing it right the first time, rather than relying on adding more capacity later.

What's the warranty on the Sungrow SBH?

Sungrow’s warranty provides ten-year cover against manufacturing defects and a ten-year performance warranty. The performance warranty guarantees at least 70% of the battery’s initial capacity after 120 months from installation, or 126 months from manufacture, whichever comes first. For ordinary daily self-consumption and backup applications, the current Version 9.0 warranty uses an unlimited-cycle condition. Different or combined applications outside those categories are subject to Sungrow’s model-specific throughput table.

Does the Sungrow SBH provide backup during a blackout?

Yes, when it is connected to a compatible Sungrow hybrid inverter and the backup side of the installation has been designed correctly. That does not automatically mean every circuit in every home can run during an outage. The backup design depends on the inverter rating, battery stack, switchboard and loads such as ducted air conditioning, ovens, pool pumps and EV chargers. This is something we can work through with you when we design your system.

Does the Sungrow SBH need a Sungrow inverter?

Yes. The SBH is a high-voltage DC-coupled battery designed specifically to work with Sungrow's SH-series hybrid inverters. It can't be paired with other brands. The good news: Sungrow's hybrid inverters are some of the most widely-installed in Australia and are consistently rated highly for reliability and performance. We also include your inverter with your quote.

What's the difference between the SBH200, SBH300, and SBH400?

The number's the storage capacity. SBH150 = 15 kWh (3 modules). SBH200 = 20 kWh (4 modules). SBH250 = 25 kWh. SBH300 = 30 kWh. SBH350 = 35 kWh. SBH400 = 40 kWh (8 modules). All six use the same 5 kWh modules and share the same warranty. Every model uses the same 5 kWh modules. Larger stacks also operate at a higher battery voltage and have more published battery-side power. The actual power reaching the home is still determined by the compatible hybrid inverter and operating conditions.

How much does a Sungrow SBH cost in Australia?

It depends on the storage capacity, inverter, phase supply, existing solar, backup design, switchboard and installation location. A 15 kWh single-phase system is a very different job from a 40 kWh three-phase battery with whole-home backup. The SBH generally makes the most sense for higher-usage households that can actually use its storage and power, rather than someone simply chasing the smallest battery available. There's no one-size-fits-all price, and we prefer not to hit you with hidden costs later, so we provide obligation-free personalised quotes tailored to your home with a breakdown of what is included, and every eligible rebate applied to the quote.
